CYBERGUARDEV
CyberGuardEV – Integrated Cybersecurity System for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations is a project funded by the Cyber 4.0 Association under Call for Proposals 1/2023, part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Mission 4 “Education and Research,” Component 2 “From Research to Business,” Investment 2.3 “Strengthening and Expanding the Thematic and Territorial Scope of Technology Transfer Centers for Industry Segments,” under the jurisdiction of MIMIT.
The project aims to develop a state-of-the-art electronic device to protect electric vehicle charging stations from side-channel attacks, in response to growing concerns about cybersecurity in the field of electric mobility, where charging stations represent potential vulnerabilities.
Electric vehicle charging stations are cyber-physical systems connected to communication networks for various functions, including:
- Station Management
- Recording and Transmission of Electrical Operating Data
- User Interface Management
- Processing of Financial Transactions
Although this connectivity is essential, it exposes the stations to various side-channel attack vectors.
Project Objectives
TME SRL, as the project leader, is collaborating with Alfagreen Solutions SRL to develop innovative solutions that address these security challenges. The device currently under development aims to:
- Detect potential cyberattacks promptly
- Implement advanced security measures
- Ensure the integrity and security of charging operations
It is estimated that 90% of energy infrastructure is at risk of a cyberattack, making the development of robust security solutions crucial. CyberGuardEV aims to make a significant contribution to the security of the electric vehicle ecosystem by protecting not only charging stations but also user data and the integrity of the power grid as a whole.
